18 Education, Science & Technology and Culture Brief Introduction      Ⅰ. The data in this chapter show the basic conditions on the development Guangdong’s education, science and technology as well as cultural undertakings.      Ⅱ. The data in this chapter mainly include:      (1) The data on tertiary, secondary, primary, and kindergarten education and various types of adult education at all levels, including the number of schools, the number of students enrolled, the number of new enrollments, the number of graduates, the number of staff and workers, and the number of full-time teachers of various levels and categories.      (2) The data on scientific and technological achievements and prizes, conditions of technological markets, numbers of patent applications accepted and granted, basic conditions of R & D institutions, R & D personnel and funds in universities and colleges, and scientific and technological activities of associations of science and technology, etc.      (3) The data on institutions, personnel and business activities of culture and arts, cultural relics, libraries, news and publication, radio, film and television, etc.      Ⅲ. The data are prepared and edited by the Division of Social, Scientific and Technological Statistics of Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province.      Ⅳ. Data sources:Data on education are processed and prepared in accordance with the annual statistical reports provided by Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. Data on science and technology are processed and prepared in accordance with the annual statistical reports provided by Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, Guangdong Provincial Department of Personnel and Guangdong Provincial Association of Science and Technology. The data on culture are processed and prepared in accordance with the annual statistical reports provided by Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture, Guangdong Provincial Administration of Press and Publication, Guangdong Provincial Administration of Radio, Film and Television, Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Sports, Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Archives and the related departments.
